Special Education Department
Provides free appropriate public education and related services to children with disabilities from 0-21years of age, to ensure that all children receive an education and become independent and productive members of their communities
Greetings and a warm “Mogethin” to the Yap State Special Education program, a vital initiative catering to the diverse needs of learners in the picturesque state of Yap, one of the four states in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). Yap, like its counterparts, benefits from IDEA Part B funding administered through the FSM National Department of Education (FSM NDOE), a crucial source of support for special education services tailored to children with disabilities from birth to the age of 21.
The heart of our commitment lies in the provision of quality special education services, and the receipt of IDEA Part B funding plays a pivotal role in sustaining these efforts. This funding allows us to address the unique learning requirements of students with disabilities, ensuring that they have access to the necessary resources and support to thrive academically and personally.
To maintain the continuity and effectiveness of these services, the Yap State Special Education program diligently submits annual and quarterly reports to the FSM NDOE. These reports serve as a comprehensive overview of the program’s activities, outcomes, and future plans, contributing to the ongoing dialogue with the national department and ensuring the continued allocation of funds.
For transparency and accessibility, copies of these reports, along with additional information pertinent to special education programs in Yap State, are readily available on this website. We encourage you to explore these documents, providing valuable insights into our initiatives, achievements, and areas for growth. It is through this openness and shared information that we foster a collaborative environment, inviting feedback and engagement from the community, parents, educators, and stakeholders invested in the well-being of our students.
As we navigate the realm of special education in Yap, we extend our gratitude to the FSM NDOE for their continued support and to the community for its active involvement. Together, we strive to create an inclusive and enriching educational experience for every child, ensuring that they not only receive an education but also have the opportunity to flourish and reach their fullest potential. Thank you for your interest in the Yap State Special Education program, where every learner’s journey is valued and celebrated.
